Hi I have a new outside wall that's plastered, that needs painting for the first time.
The plastering was done last year.
Do I need to undercoat, and put in some sort of additive to seal it as its the first coat?

    Thanks

    AtotT

    Why paint it at all?
Have you done the Carbon Content math of this exercise?

We need to reduce our carbon footprint, not to mind the other stuff in paints

Because its adjacent to another wall that's painted. I'd prefer the advice I'm looking for please.

I'll help you out OP! If it's standard sand/ cement render with a smooth or napped finish then a standard external paint like Dulux Weathershield (there are other branded alternatives) will be fine, thin the first coat with water (as per the recommendations on the can- typically 10%), followed by 1 or two full coats when dry. Prepare well- ensure the wall is clean and free of loose material- brush down or wash with water and allow to dry before painting. Use a good roller sleeve and don't over thin the paint. No need for primers or other surface treatments unless there are issues like alkali or efflorescence leaching through or similar.

Agree. I just painted my internal walls which had fresh plaster. First coat should be watered down so it sticks to the plaster.
