Facebook charges to my bank card

    Hello,
Just wondering has anyone had the same experience and what did they do?

I set up an anonymous facebook page a fun page regarding dating & had arranged with a publication to print a few stories & the aim was to raise money for charity.

Anyhow, I thought I would do some facebook advertising & spent the minimum amount approximately 30 US dollars. (result was hopeless got me no followers). This was last July 2018.

In March 2019 i noticed my bank account had strange transactions. I have a large overdraft so the best part of 800 euro was taken out. Rang the bank of Ireland and they said it was fraud and gave me back my money directly into my account.

about a month ago i got a letter from the bank of ireland saying that they investigated the case and took the money from me. got impressions from facebook (don't know how they got these) and said i authorised it. i did not! i wrote them a letter providing evidence of runners and clothes being sold on my anonymous facebook page. the bank have shut me down - saying when a case is closed it is closed.

I sent a registered letter to the CEO of facebook (cause i could find nobody who deals with complaints, actually nobody in general a 'person' that I could write too) - no response.

i don't know where to turn to now.
should i forget about trying to get back my money ( i have an overdraft and i don't have lot's of money i work in a poorly paid job) and put it down to a very bad experience or should i pursue another avenue?

    Thank you

    Hmm its a tricky one.

Facebooks ads are misleading when you create them. As it says when you are creating it €30 minimum spend 'however usually thats 30 euro until such a date and you can pick 30 euro a day for a year or 30 euro for a week.

Seems like you might have forgotten to set it to only a day or 2?

You authorised facebook to charge your bank account so that's why the bank won't get involved.

It sounds like your page is active and still has payment details attached. Can you log in to the account and view the account history? https://www.facebook.com/business/help/156558524411792

If it's blank, you'll need to research further. If it lists the charges there's not a lot you can do other than dispute them with facebook.

I think the CEO of Facebook isn't bothered by one person's €800, he earn several thousand a minute... If not more.

Let me get this correct, you effectively opened a shop selling things through Facebook, and authorised Facebook to take a payment to try find customers for you, over time you possibly received a bill for an annual amount and given Facebook were already authorised to take money, so they took it.

Is it possible that Facebook took an annual payment ? By any chance is it a year since you set the whole thing up ?

I feel for you but maybe you need to reconsider trying to operate a business online.

The lesson here is to get a revolut card and use the virtual one time card to pay for subscriptions that you might get recurring charges from
