Provisional licence

    Evening all.

I'm currently looking at renewing my provisional licence but I haven't got my previous card. It expired Jan 2015. I've been unsuccessful with the test itself previously.

Is there a way it would be renewed without the card? I have my licence number but not the card itself.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

Provisional licence was done away with in 2007, what you now have is an expired learner permit. You can renew it upto 5 years after its expiry, 10 in the case of a full licence. I had to go through a process similar to yours once, permit was expired a few years, was never asked for it, on the flip side others have had to get the application form stamped by Gardai to say it was lost/stolen. If this is your 3rd or subsequent permit you must apply for the test first before another permit is issued to you or a recent failing of the test, inside the last 2 years I think so that doesn’t apply in your case.

I renewed my learner permit back in January this year. My previous learner permit expired in 2017, but I didn't have it with me (it was in my wallet which was stolen a few months before the learner permit expired).

So, I completed and signed the lost/stolen declaration in the application form at a garda station, and it was signed and stamped by the guard who witnessed it (like the above poster said). Was in and out of the station in a couple of minutes.
