1.2 Ford Fiesta 08 Zetec Steel 2 transmission 3rd gear?

    Hi,

    I noticed recently that my ford fiesta 08 not going directly into 3rd gear. When I say not going, after shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear it wont bite I end up missing it (which creates a grinding noise) and pulling back to neutral unlike before where it just smoothly shift to 3rd.

    I hope, finger cross it won't be a major issue as I had the car for only 4 months and I want to run it for another couple of months until I reach 1 year nct expires January 2020. I can't afford to get a new car at the moment?

    Does it go into 3rd (fully) from second or changing down from 4th at all? Or you just find it very difficult?
    I dunno if there are cables in that gear linkage could be going. A bit of lubcrication in the gear linkage area can do a lot to help stiff gears. Won't help a worn gearbox which I suppose is a possibility too.

    It does go into 3rd gear from 4th, but the issue is when shifted from 2nd to 3rd it does not go fully and sometimes a bit stiff, this happened 3 days ago.

    a gearbox swap isn't a huge problem, there will be loads in the scrapyards. You need to get a mechanic to look at it.

    Try going 2nd to neutral , then release clutch, re-engage clutch and then third. Old skool double declutching from when we had no syncromesh.

    A pretty common Ford IB5 gearbox issue, it is worth a shot to try the below fix (it did work on my wife's 2008 Focus):
