Garda speed gun

Hello, Apologies if this has been answered a thousand times, but I couldn't see an up to date response on any thread I searched. Answers seem to go back to 2011, and thus are about 8 years out of date.

Coming into Cork today, on the N20, the speed limit changes from 60 km/h to 50km/h, at the lights by the hotel before the Dulux factory. Just about everyone just ignores this, though normally I lurk at around 52km/h as I am a woosie and don't want a ticket!

For some reason today I clearly wasn't paying attention at all, and was doing about 60km/h, maybe a bit more (up to 70km/h? I don't know), following the stream of traffic (though with about 5 or 6 car lengths between me and the car in front) when I spotted a Guard leaning on his An Garda Siochana car with a speed gun pointed down the dual carriageway, and I was in the inside lane. There's no way he didn't get me. :( Also, my speedometer is fairly accurate.

I can't seem to find current answers to the following questions:

    a) How long does it take An Garda Siochana to issue speeding FPNs via their office in Thurles? Someone said "3 months" but that's madness, I'll be going insane with worry.

    b) Don't the Guards have to pull you over when using one of these cameras, or is that old technology/information that's no longer current?

Any helpful advice that anyone can give would be appreciated. The obvious one is "Don't speed",yes, I've got that.

    Thanks in advance
    Sorcha.

With the gun they have to stop you.

If that's the case (and I shall be thrilled if it is :) ) why do the Guards bother, or are they after the completely mental ones haring down the road. If he did me, he'd have had to do everyone on both lanes....!!

Well the whole idea of speed traps is to enforce the limit. So by being there today it is highly likely that anyone who was speeding slowed down for rest of day and will stick to limits along there in future.

And yep to catch the completely mental ones or the one that coincides with shift change / lunch

The hand held speed guns are laser speed detection devices they don't take pictures. If he didn't come after you he wasn't interested in you. Relax and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

the speed limit is 60 all the way to McDonalds. Ignore the flashing sign , that was never updated when they increased the limit.

HI Isambard, the Guard was down near the turn off into the back of the Blackpool shopping centre, it was WELL PAST McDonald's. Beyond the Dulux factory. I was heading into Cork ....
    Thanks though :)

Thank you Auguste Comte, good to know, and yes, I will. :) Still, lesson learnt about paying attention to my speed!

They are there regularly by the entrance to the sunbeam as already said you are in the clear.

Thanks! It certainly had the intended effect of making me pay attention to my speed, even if everyone else is speeding, it doesn't mean I have to!

I went through a very late orange light about 3 months ago I admit I should have stopped as I should have been slowing to stop, anyway rookie guard and colleague sped up behind me lights on,
Garda said do I know why he stopped me?
I said no, because I drove through an orange he said it was red and I said no it was orange, I would not admit liability. Dash cam on recording sound which he may or may not have noticed.

He then claimed my tax was out, he was actually wrong because I still had a day on it. Expired 28th of February. The day in question was the 28th of February.

Anyway he went back to his car and then came back to me after talking to his colleague for about 5 minutes and said he was giving me a ticket. He took details from my license and then I never heard anything since. That was on February 28th.

Sorry for hijacking thread here but anyone reckon he spotted my dash cam and thought I might appeal it and then didn’t bother ? As I clearly disagreed with him it was red and wouldn’t accept it.
Is it the case they try and make you admit it to give them the green light to do you ?

Also my dash cam shows orange but lt literally was red as I entered the junction.

if you get away with it you'll be very lucky, especially as you admit you should have stopped. If they tell a Judge it was Red you're sunk.
Orange means stop so they wouldn't need to get you to admit to crossing a red. No doubt they'd argue that you had time to stop without it being dangerous

I was either blessed as Garda second guessed himself after spotting dashcam or the tickets still on the way. But that’s 4 months ago now.
