You'll probably find it's the foreigners' fault, or possibly the Muslims.

In all seriousness, wrong forum, try Motors

How much oil is it using?
    Has it passed NCT recently?
Is there any signs of oil in the coolant?

Start with looking under the car for any leaks, my car was using (I thought it was) around 0.5 liter per week, turned out it was a sensor that was bad and letting out oil, the whole front of the engine was drenched in oil. It was burning off when the engine was getting hot so there wasn't much dripping off on the ground.

What oil is recommended in the owners manual? Anything below 1l of oil per 1000km is acceptable for a car. If it's using more than that then you have an issue, bring it to a garage.

The whole 1l per 1k km is a joke really. Manufacturers covering themselves. I only do 10-15k a year, but I doubt topping up 15l of oil is in a year is normal. Especially with recently introduced long service intervals.

They allow 1l per 1000 km and at the same time let you go without a service for 25k kilometres? How is this even possible???

Service intervals and using oil are different issues, that's how it's possible. You are supposed to check your car regularly.

I would still be worried and definitely wouldn't expect to top up 15 litres of oil a year. Regardless of what the manufacturer consider as a normal consumption.

would need around a litre every 2/3 weeks,[as i said you'd want to keep watch on it] which seems a lot to me as i had a Micra for 4 years and hardly ever had to lift the bonnet except for screen wash.
had 4 months nct when i bought it, passed nct in April.
No signs of oil in coolant. Oil light has never came on either.

Time is irrelevant. If you want a garage to look at the issue you need to say what distance you are doing.

2 or 3 litres for 150km is an issue, but you need to start checking your mileage when you top up to be certain. How sure are you about not smoking? Has someone followed you to make sure?

Is there an oil stain where you normally park? Just to be sure put some cardboard under the engine when you park up at night to see if you are leaking, don't forget to weigh down the cardboard.

thanks for your advice, no stain where i park, fairly sure not smoking , but then not sure[my neighbors would tell me they love to see something wrong]

If there's a leak there will be an oil stain. If it's burning 3 litres per 150km the exhaust will be blue in colour.
Can't think of where else the oil could be going.

If it's not smoking, leaking or in the water then someone must be robbing the oil from your car, that much oil can't be used and not leave some signs.

That's a good point, check the coolant for oil. If it's not there you need mulder and scully not a mechanic.
