Lost Memory stick Dublin Airport or Car Hire return

On Sunday, I lost a small purse either at the car hire return or Dublin airport. It contained a memory stick with personal and work files. I would never carry it but I left work the other day and stuck it in my purse until I got home but forgot about it. There was nothing else in this purse - no ID, cash, card or anything.
I called the car hire, they said they did not find anything. They car went out again a few hours later, they said they will check the day it comes back in 2 weeks (I will call them again that day). I have reported it on DAA lost & find website, they said they have no match. I am concerned someone will keep my data or worse use it - I am hoping they will either throw the USB stick in the rubbish, or delete my folder before using it for their music or whatever. Any ideas what I should do next?

You need to inform work of the loss. They may have to report it to the DPC if there is customer personal data on it.

Even if found the DPC may need to be informed as you have no idea what happened to it in the intervening time
