    hi folks,

    I am going to build a shed 4m x 4m

My intention is to dig 100 mm deep foundation 4m x 4m and fill with 804

I will level and then build a sub frame of 150 x 44 - with joists at 40mm, this will lie on the ground.

So, will this work ? Is laying the whole frame on the ground a bad idea versus putting it up on blocks on the foundation ?

if so, do I then need to go larger on the beams and reduce the distance between the joists ?

    thanks

Ventilation is really timbers best friend.

Do what your doing regarding the sub base but your still placing timber on the ground, even though it should have good drainage.

It will last 20 years anyway.

To add, even though Im contradicting myself, I have a timber single deck board border around the garden for 12 years sitting on soil. I cut 100 mm posts into 1 foot pieces and buried them every 6 feet. Placed treated 125mm 1x2 on these and finished with standard treated deck boards on top. 12 years on direct soil, rain frost etc and still solid.

Your sizing is fine on the joist.Me now though would put down a membrane.
