Lenovo Smart Display - Issues

    Hi

I mentioned some issues with the Lenovo Smart Display on the Google Home FAQ thread, but wanted to see if anymore folks have seen similar issues. So for the past 6 weeks or so, there have been voice command issues, but the last 3 weeks it has been noticeably worse.

Its like the lenovo is listening, but the words dont always come up, or else you have to put your mouth almost to its screen. Then a bit later, it could be fine. I was assuming that it was a hardware fault, now it appears that it may not be at all as others on the Google FAQ thread have indicated the same.

Its also sometimes not responding well to other people in the house, but it will be to me, or vice versa. Trying to turn lights on /off is now completely hit and miss, radio stations, Spotify etc, the same. You can use the pull down menu for the lights alright, its just voice commands. The little Google Home Mini upstairs is not having any of these issues.

So i might try to return the unit, even though i have it maybe 4 months or so, but was curious if anyone with actual Google Home hub units are seeing similar problems ??

    Thanks.

I'm having pretty much the same issues. To put it crudely it's like it's gotten brain damage somehow recently. I had to reset it recently and set the language as American English and I thought that may have been it. I bought mine in the USA originally. I don't think the firmware was updated recently or anything so not sure what's going on

Mine was bought through Littlewoods here, best price at the time, so i assume a european model. I want to unplug it at this stage, as its now more irritating than useful. Just wasn't sure whether to replace it with a Google Unit or not, i am not hearing the same issues with those. In fact, i am not seeing many issues with the Lenovos in general, other than on here. Might not be big enough sellers maybe.

On a positive note, I found last night I can cast the RTE player app to the Lenovo Smart display (US bought) with no issues

I think this has always been the case

It must be working some kind of voodoo if it can make the RTE Player do anything at all without issues.

This problem seems to have returned and be even worse than before...

According to the thread on the Lenovo site, Google performed some sort of rollback that resolved the issue. Then on the week beginning Monday 15th July, there was another software update pushed out. You will notice that the screen now has a permanent weather display in the bottom left corner.

I was away that week but my wife told me that it had gotten useless again, but strangely it seems to respond to me most of the time, but neither myself nor my daughter have much success with it unless they are standing beside it. So for me anyway, its the a similar problem (not recognising commands etc), but a bit more selective in who is listens to.

There is a new thread open on the Lenovo site, and i have PM'd the site rep, but no response at all.
