Samsung Galaxy S6 turning itself off

Hi, have owned my S6 for 3 years now. Over the 3 years I have had the phone restart itself randomly. It wouldnt happen so often that it would be an issue but just wondering would this have been normal for this type phone? I had a HTC One for 3 years also prior to the S6 and I never had any trouble with it. The last couple of nights though I woke up in the morning to find the phone asking me to enter in my 4 digit pin (it always asks for this when the phone gets turned off and then on or if you restart the phone). Why is my phone now turning itself on and then on again during the night?? The S6 is a great phone and would like to eventually move on to the S9 but is this a common blip with Samsung phones? 3 days after I first got this phone it turned off and I could not turn it back on again for hours...

This started happening to my old S6 which I gave to my wife. Eventually, it just stopped working altogether and died, regardless of what efforts were tried to restore it. Seemingly regular overheating caused it to die and would need a new mainboard.

Maybe worth trying a factory reset?

Always backup important messages, photos etc securely beforehand.
