Parking when finishing test Naas

I will be doing my test in Naas in a few weeks and have encountered a problem with parking. My test is at the centre beside the hotel. My problem is that the parking lot seems to be very busy and it seems very likely I may have to park in between two cars. I have never done this before.

My plan as suggested by my instructor is to drive in forward and not reverse. Though since the spaces are tight this seems very difficult. I cannot practice the conditions as I am always in work when the test centre is busy.

I was wondering am i alllowed multiple manouveres to get into the space? As in drive in a bit then reverse out to straigthen up.

    Any tips.

Can you practice in a shopping centre car park, or somewhere else similar at all?

Yeah, have been trying just frustrating not being able to replicate the conditions. Spaces are very tight there when parking in between two cars imo.

I don't see why that would be a problem, as long as you make all the necessary checks/observations before and through every manoeuvre.

I did it. When I drove in first I was at an angle, reversed out and straightened up and went back in, passed and tester never said anything. Dont see how they would fail you over that.

My brother failed on a related matter - reversing out of a parking space, causing another vehicle to stop.

I don’t think your technically allowed to reverse out of a parking space.

Of course you can. It's just that the amount of checks you need to do are much higher.

Some companies do have reverse in/ drive out parking policies, but that's only applicable on their site.

Just practise parking between cars from now on.
Always reverse in. It's easier and safer for everyone.

Reverse in on the day so you can just drive out when test starts.
Drive in after the test. It's perfectly legal to reverse out.

The only time you cannot reverse is onto a main road.
    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1964/en/si/0294.html
    (2) A driver shall not reverse on to a major road from another road, or whenever his vision is such that to reverse would be likely to endanger other traffic or pedestrians.
This thread is not about the above reversing so if anyone wants to discuss that further, start a new thread.

As someone who finds driving into car park spaces much more difficult than reversing in, I reversed into the space both before and after the test. And no, there’s no limit to the amount of manoeuvres you can make to park as long as you observe adequately.

At the end of my test I reversed into the car park space (which took 2-3 manoeuvres as they’re so tight) only to realise the car next to me was parked far too close to my car (again, they’re very tight spaces and they were in a jeep). So I told the instructor I was moving to another space instead. I did so (again in 2-3 manoeuvres) and passed. He said if I had stayed in the original space he would have had to have failed me, so don’t worry about parking even if you have to completely abandon the space for another.

I only ever drove my instructors car with him in it and used it for the test, which i passed, After finishing the test, the examiner told me to park it anywhere in the test center and I nearly panicked as it was the first time i had ever had to park a car. Luckily i managed not to hit anything.

I found having to pick a space after the test stressful. I'm used to my instructor telling me where to go and what space to park in, that when I had to decide for myself I became a jibbering wreck!

    Hi there.

I did my test in Naas today at that Hotel and passed it.

OP just to let you know that upon the return the car park was very busy, so the tester pointed at a spot to the left after you come back in the gates, so I had to reverse into the spot.

    Be ready for that.

As others said, the only way to make neatly is to reverse in. Lower your mirrors to see rear wheels and practice, practice, practice.
