My 2008 1.6 Petrol Mondeo runs fine most of the time. The only issue I'm having is when I refuel every two weeks or so the car is very difficult to start, seems to be happen every time I top up with petrol.

My Mechanic seemed stumped and couldn't come up with any plausable explanation as to why this is happening.

The symptoms after refuelling are extremely difficult to start and when it does start it stalls often taking several attempts to keep it running.

Anyone ever come across or experience this?

An issue within the fuel tank (deposits) and/or the filter? Is it plausible that deposits inside the tank could be agitated during refuelling and cause an issue in the initial delivery of fuel? If it was a one off/rare occurrence you'd check the fuel cap is on properly (EVAP system) but that's not the issue by the sounds of it.

You might be onto something there. A full tank would have less air inside so a vacuum would be more pronounced. Obviously a simple thing to diagnose, just open the cap and see is the problem still there.

Having said that, I'd be looking more at the fuel pump. It's just seems more obvious to me.

I’m not long finished a repair on a 2008 1.6 petrol mondeo with a similar issue. This particular car had intermittent long crank/non start.
What I found was that one of the pins at the wiring connector on fuel pump had badly burned which caused a bad contact,making/breaking the fuel pump electrical circuit. It was only when I went to get a 2nd hand pump it turns out that according to every breakers yard I spoke to -they are almost impossible to source due to it being a problem with this model.
A contact I have in a Ford main dealer confirmed this too.
Found one eventually and sorted my issue.
There’s no access to this unit under the rear seats like some brands. It requires the fuel tank removed. This connector on the car I had was actually very badly scorched with heat due to the bad connection
Worth a look I’d say before it fails completely on you.
