I was just watching a video on "deep fakes".

The phrase basically means fake media as driven by artificial intelligence.

Crazy stuff like being able to make very convincing videos of people, including speech that says whatever the creator wants.

Think along these lines, that a" secret" video of Varadkar is "leaked" where it is clearly him saying that he hates Irish people. Except it isn't real.

Imagine the impact on international diplomacy, politics, on relationships, journalism and so on.

And I've seen a.i that can respond reasonably well through text. Imagine the implications.

Bold prediction: after the initial shyyytstorm when this stuff spreads, people will abandon the Internet altogether as completely fake.

Here's a poll. If you suspected that most of the "people" on boards.ie were simply a.i. scripts, would you bother posting?

If you suspected most users on boards were just bots... 7 votes

I'd probably still use the website as usual

    I'd probably abandon the website

    Abandon the internet? yeah right!

Once the bots are entertaining no one will care

If you've ever played Deus Ex Human Revolution... that's the reality we're heading in.

I suppose harsh laws can be put in place for media news outlets caught using such things.
