Jobpath - what should I do?

    Hi,

There is a position under the C.E scheme that I am very much interested in. It is in my local town, it just seems too good to pass up - I can benefit from the jobseeking support of JobPath while also availing of a part-time work placement under the CE scheme. It seems a win-win for all.

I contacted my local Intreo Office to check my eligibility and to apply for the vacancy. The Intreo case officer informed me that I would have to get my P.A in Job Path to send down a request to them. They said that the would put me on a list for interview, and that I only needed my P.A in Job Path to make it official - in order to "dot the i's and cross the t's" - so that was fine. I rang my P.A in Job Path to ask would they send down a request so I could "officially" apply for the position. Well, I almost had to plead with my P.A for them to allow me to. They said, it wouldn't be of benefit to me, and all this. They nearly said no to my request. Can they do this? Anyway, they said they would send down a request, but I have my doubts that they did, or would. That was several days ago, and I haven't heard anything from the Intreo case officer regarding an interview.

I thought it was best for me to go to the Intreo case officer first rather than my P.A as at least there was proof of me wanting to do it so that it wouldn't be "swept under the carpet". There is a history of this. I had asked my P.A. several months ago to put me down to do the C.E scheme, and I hadn't heard anything from that request, and that was months ago. So I had to go down to the office that deal with the C.E schemes, and do that myself.

I don't want to miss out on this job! It would suit me down to the ground. Should I call the Intreo case officer to ask was there a request sent down for me from my P.A?? I feel if I leave it for much longer it will be gone. What shall I do?? Can my P.A reject my request?

I am pretty sure they can't. What is the point of the C.E or Tus schemes on Jobpath if you can't avail of them?

I would have thought they would be acting in people's best interests.. but apparently not..

They dont get a commission when you take a CE scheme and once youre on a CE scheme youre no longer in the JobPath scheme. It doesnt suit your P.A as she has her own self interest to think of, not only will she have lost a client but she wont get recognition or a commission if you get employment. Its awful as its a great opportunity for you to expand your skills and experience and may lead to an actual job. Theyre a business, they only care about making money from you.

go back to the intreo case officer you spoke to and ask if there's any update.
    see where the conversation goes.

    good luck

That is good advice. I wasn't sure how to handle it. I hope they sent down my request. It can't go any further unless they sent down my request.

Have you gone to the CE project directly. Talk to the supervisor, they can maybe put a push on your application. They will have to interview you anyway to decide if you are suitable.

When the vacancy initially came up, I contacted the CE project directly, and the informed me that it had to go through my case officer to apply for the vacancy. Should I contact the CE project directly again?

It would do no harm to let them know you are interested and are waiting for job path to refer you.
