Bought this a month ago, clean and got a new NCT on it.
seller said he took it as a trade in & was unsure when the timing belt was changed.
brought it to a mechanic who said it was a bigger job as there are 2 belts.

Question is how do you know if these are going to go?

You swap belts depending on car's mileage and/or age.

If I was you, and I'm not... I would get them done if there is no documented evidence of them being within normal range for mileage/age. It will pay you back ten fold compared to if it gives way.

It should have a timing chain rather than a belt.assuming it’s a regular Tourneo and not a Tourneo Connect.

    ITS A TOURNEO CONNECT

Aha. Different animal to a regular Tourneo so.

You won’t know a belt is going until it’s too late. Unless a visual inspection throws something obvious up.

The 1.8 engine had both a chain and a belt up til around 2008, it then changed to a wet belt system with two belts. Both belts need to be changed and have the same interval.
