I called to a friend to connect his new Panasonic 43 in. tv to his satellite dish which I installed 5 years ago.Since the satellite receiver i=has been previously tuned in to receive all free to air Astra 28.2 channels,I erronousely assumed that it was a matter of connecting receiver and tuned in channels would appear on screen.Nothing whatever even though many other brands of tv connect automatically.I acessed channel search and scan displayed many free to air channels as encrypted.I told my colleague I have never seen this ever before in any other brand of tv.I advised him to return his new tv as he is entitled to do and demand a full refund.

I wouldn't blame the TV, I assume one of the satellite settings is at fault.
    Which FTA channels are encrypted?

My guess is there is a filter option selected to display encrypted channels only.

Would the "encrypted" FTA channels include the likes of Channel 4HD etc? This is an issue with Vestel TV's like Walker & Toshiba, which some Panasonic models are too. They get mistakenly flagged as encrypted for whatever reason (I still don't know why).

It is not my tv so I do not get involved.I do not need the hassle of being responsible for any further complications

I've seen this over many years with various FTA satellite receivers also, something to do with how the channel is flagged for transmission?

On my sat TVs there is a filter option for the type of channels to be displayed i.e. All; TV only; Radio Only; Text Only. This is separate from the tuning of the TV

Under the TV display filter it has All; Free and Encrypted.

I wonder if there is a similar settings for the Panasonic TV?
