Unstable wireless broadband, any ideas

Hi we currently have 3 wireless broadband via an external antenna erected about 3 weeks ago, previously we just had the modem at a window giving speeds about 1mbps down.
The new set up has greatly improved our signal I've seen 35 mbps down but it will keep dropping down to 0.3 or 0.4 mbps. I've moved the antenna around the house but I believe I've the best spot possible now, I've changed the sim, and the modem. But it's still not reliable, we are in an area with very poor signal (former nbs customers) so is there nothing more that can be done.

If you're getting both 35 mbps and 0.3mpbs from the same location, then it's highly unlikely to be the positioning of your router. Sounds simply like contention issues on 3's side. Are there particular times of the day when the speed drops?

Switching from 3 should fix it.

are you sure that the router is not cycling through the various data types ? can you set it to always connect on 4G and see if that stabilises it ?

(posible stupid answer as ive never used 3 services but first thing that springs to mind - had similiar on a vodafone due to signal strength)

or as heavydawson says its contention and nothing you can do apart form witch provider

Is it staying on 4G or cycling to to lower rate due to traffic?
Number of devices you have connected at the time?
    Particular time of day?
    What are you testing on?

Any thing wireless in the house that's A:producing a strong wireless signal (aka causing interference) or B: anything wireless that's on around the time it gets slow?

I thought of contention issues but surely not that extreme. I'll give an example yesterday solid 9mbps down, till suddenly at around 9 it dropped to 0.6. It stayed low till I kept switching between auto and 4g and it came back to 8. There are 4 users in the house but on the evenings the signal has been good it's never been an issue

I've tried leaving it on 4g but auto seems to be giving me higher readings. Would height help the antenna is positioned on the wall of a bungalow if it was moved to the chimney stack would it make any difference.
It's head wreaking it's like it's able to latch on to a strong signal but can't sustain it

You need to see if the cell ID changes when the speeds plummet.

could you set it to 3g ? it maybe that lots of devices come online with 4g , might be slower overall but more stable ?

No I'm in Westmeath having been studying it for the last week it seem to be a combination of contention and the weather.
I have left it on 4g and it has been good till last night, with all the rain it dropped off considerably but its OK again today
