A/C overcharging - compressor toast or just a bearing?

    Hi,

Last summer, before a road trip holiday, my A/C was not running cold enough I so attempted to top it up using a auto store A/C recharge kit.
The A/C ran nice and cold.

The next day on day 1 of the trip, about 2 hours in, the A/C stopped running cold again. I figured I had a leak.

Later that night I picked up some A/C leak sealant from another local auto store and added that as directed.
The A/C though, never got cold.

The next day, after another 5-6 hours of driving I noticed a noise from the engine bay, it sounded like a bearing noise (or something rotational).

Day 3, during another 2 hour drive, the noise was getting more frequent and worse.

The car was then parked up for a few days at our destination but before hitting the road on an 11ish hour drive home with a noisy bearing, I decided to remove the belt from the A/C compressor (I actually had to replace the belt with a belt for a non A/C model of my car, as the belt also drove the alternator).

Alas, no more noise on the return journey and none since.

Fast forward to today, I decided to sell the car but want it running well before sale.

My questions are: what is the likely damage done to my A/C system?
Total compressor replacement or possibly just the clutch and bearing?
Any way for me to diagnose before purchasing parts? The A/C is in the car with no belt presently.

If it's just the clutch, bearing I will do the work myself and have a shop vac the lines and recharge but if it's a total compressor replacement, I'll need to go back to the drawing board as it's an expensive repair.

The car is a 2005 honda civic with around 176k km, worth around $3500 CAD with A/C fixed, without A/C, not sure maybe $2500 CAD, but might have trouble selling it, especially now in summer time.

EDIT. I inspected the A/C compressor pulley and it's loose, there is play when shaking it from side to side, and when hard turned, there is a grinding noise. This was all done without the carbon and A/C clutch engaged.

    TIA.
