    Hi all,

I had cause to travel extensively in the North East and Midlands yesterday, including the Dundalk-Ardee road in its entirety. I understand that this particular section was de-trunked from N52 to regional or local road some years back. However, to my surprise ALL of the road signs still have this road as the N52, and, additionally, from the M1 approaching Dundalk still points to the old N52 as the way to Mullingar, and the same is true on the Mullingar bypass as well - road signs from the N4 Mullingar Bypass still point to the N52 to Dundalk instead of Ardee. And I wouldn't be in the least surprised if every road sign on the N52 between Mullingar and Ardee still had direction signs to Dundalk.

Are the authorities (like TII) just many, many years late in updating the signage? Or why would the road be de-trunked only to make no reference to the reduced length road on the ground.

Has the road been re-trunked or something? Anyone know what's going on? Otherwise it just seems like Schroedinger's Cat.
