Reducing cabin noise

I've got an old Citroen which has a lot of cabin noise - mainly due to the tyres and the rear torsion beam suspension.

It is currently running on a full set of Lassa Impetus Revo (195 R15 55).

The suspension has been recently refreshed all round including a refurbished rear axle etc. The rear beam doesn't like sudden changes in road surface - causing a bit a bang noise even with the fully refreshed setup.

I'm interested in trying a few things on this car to see if I can reduce the cabin noise (rather than messing about with something newer and more expensive). So, I've been looking into tyre selection. The noise ratings are for drive by noise - not cabin noise. Also, looking into adding some additional sound deadening to the car to see if that helps.

Has anyone spent any time on sound deadening their cars? I have read that good gains can be made by just adding deadening to the boot and read seats - floor untouched. I understand that the sound deadening is heavy stuff though.

It is heavy but good stuff, works very well & the extra weight even makes the car feel sturdier. Stripped out the seats & carpet in my old BMW & covered it in a layer of sound deadening, made everything nice & much quieter.
