This popped up on my ‘shows you might be interested in’ feed a few weeks back, before I had read much about it I had downloaded the first 8 episodes only to discover there are in total 450 odd 40 min episodes, s1 76, s2 103, s3 & 4 90 (all on Netflix), s5 90. That’s 300 hours of tv in total so quite a commitment but in my opinion well worth it (so far at least). It is a Turkish language drama with English subtitles available.

It is about a nomadic tribe in Central Asia, the eponymous hero Ertugrul is one of the sons of the Shah (chief) of the Kayi tribe. S1 centres around their battles with the Crusaders, s2 the Mongols…haven’t read much about the rest in case it spoils it.

Sure the sub titles are a bit crap, there is a lot of Praise God (like most of these period dramas) but I find myself excited to see what happens each episode- btw am 130 in (so mid-way through s2) ……only 320 to go!

All done, it’s been a long but enjoyable road 448 episodes in total of fighting, double dealing, over-coming treachery....absolutely no riding if that's your thing, I found it quite refreshing to not have a token sex scene in every episode.

s5 was added a few weeks back so the full suite now available on Netflix

Roll on the sequel, Resurrection: Osman
