    Hi

Is it possible to get above as a bike rack on my car still blocks the number plate when in the folded position. I want to leave the rack on permanently.

    Thanks.

Google tells me such a thing exist.
About the legality, I have no clue.

NCT manual has a section on number plates, if it would pass an NCT then should be ok. I would expect a fail on number plate lighting though.

    Section 1 and 61

Maybe have two? the normal reg plate and a more visible one that could be stuck to the window with double sided 3m sticky pads?

Don't rear plates have to be illuminated at night? Can you see either plate when carrying the bike?

Get a trailer board and cut it down if the bike rack, and bike, doesn't block your lights. If you are leaving the rack on permanently then use a permanent solution.

I have the light board already. I would only use if the bikes were on the rack.

I don't want to be stopped by a cop with the number plate covered but a sticker on the rear window might cover me.

Going by the nct link above though I may be out of luck.

If the rack is blocking the number plate just leave it on all the time.

It is not suitable to leave it on as the rack folds up into a narrow vertical position and the number plate wouldn't be secure plus be vulnerable to being robbed/vandalised.

I may just take it off altogether. It is secured on the towbar with a nut bolt.

I was thinking this would be ok as my existing rear plate would be there.
I just want a rear window sticker that would still be readable by road cameras/vans etc.

Something like the L plate stickere that could be attached/detached easily.

Perhaps I could get a normal one made up in halfords and secure it to the rear of the inside window.

Permanently attach it to the tow bar and secure to the bottom of the rack.

Jury rig a number plate lamp on the bike carrier and attach a regulation plate beneath it, shouldn't be too hard to do with a bit of Blue Peter gumption behind it.

Would a Japanese style square number plate be ok?
It would be much easier to secure as wouldn't be sticking out at either side.
