Topper or mower

Hi guys. I'm in the market for a new topper/mower. Need advice. I'm looking for a machine that will top with a fine cut on rough ground. I get a contractor to mulch any heavy fields of rushes. I need a machine to maintain these fields. I would love to go for a disc mower because it would leave a good cut and I would have the option of mowing heavy paddocks or silage fields. I'm just a bit worried about a disc mower on rough ground (and the cost). Would I be better off with a normal topper or some sort of flail.

I think it depends largely on your land type, if you go for a mower you'd want to know every rock in the field, you hit any decent sized rock with a mover and it's goodnight, now having said that i've never used a mower as the fields i'd be topping in would have plenty of rock and for me it is'nt worth the hassle, but obviously i lose out topping paddocks as you won't get low enough to top it tight, but you'll get low enough to take the bad look off of it with a topper.
I have a Malone topper here it must be 20 years old aside from 1 or 2 blades to replace when hitting rocks it's about as bulletproof as it gets.
