    Depends on the driving

Herself is averaging around 36mpg with mixed motorway and some around town driving and and thats the 1.8T (which is a 2 litre petrol turbo engine)

The one I picked up is the 1.8i (which is a 1.8 without turbo) and that averages around 38ish

If you prefer litres/100kms, both are in or around 7.5l/100kms
Both are taking the car fairly handy and not really pushing any speed limits, but still using the full limit.

Ok, i spoke with someone recently who was spending 90 euro a week driving 40 minutes daily to work mon-fri they said it was crazy. I dunno...so no cheap tax on these? Well nothing below 700 per year?

Again, it all depends. If it's 40 minutes a day sitting in Dublin traffic bumper to bumper, it could be totally different, but the above figures are what you'll get for regular driving.

You'll get cheaper tax on post 2008, but more than likely only the diesel engines. Haven't priced any Saab petrol engines after 2008, so not sure how they work out on CO2 emissions tax rates

thanks mike, i would consider diesel also but would mainly use it for short runs mon-fri and long ish drives on weekends. I dont want want to rule out the diesels just because...if i can get cheaper tax also on the diesel.
