Hmmm, Not sure why you think that you can take 2 bags? The default is 1 that will fit under your seat and you pay extra to take the carry-on bag.

Personally I wouldn't chance it. My experience is that they are very strict now and someone with 3 bags will stand out a mile when boarding.

I didn't have priority last week on Ryanair and had a rucksack and a very large handbag. Plus on the way back a duty free bag as well. Not a word said.

No, one carry on and one rucksack/school style bag.

As with most of these type of posts people's experiences will usually be different :)

That seems fine though (to me at least) though it's just luck of the draw and often how full the flight is and when you are in the queue. It may depend on how large the 2 rucksacks are but the general rule is that you pay for the overhead storage.

We are looking at booking flights with Ryanair to a sun destination soon, family 2 adults 3 kids, we only have need to book one checked bag and 4 smál cases max, if we booking priority for four of us and not for one of the kids would they be strict on our kid under 10 not boarding first with us? Anyone with experience of this?

Just book priority for one of the adults and the three kids and let one of the adults join the regular queue.

For €12 why would you risk it?

No experience with this but you'd imagine that it would be a PR nightmare to separate kids from parents while boarding (not that Ryanair would sink with a little bad PR). I imagine that when booking they'll push their Family Plus offer which would avoid any potential problems that you describe.

    FYI
It is mandatory for children under 12 (excl. infants) to be seated next to an adult they are travelling with. In order to minimise customer costs, Ryanair allows a free allocated seat to a maximum of four children per one adult that purchases a seat. It will not be mandatory for any other adults or teenagers in the booking to reserve a seat; however they may choose to do so.

The priority queue is huge now. With assigned seats, you’re better off waiting till last to board. Priority numbers are limited so there will be room for all small cases with smaller rucksacks going under the seat in front of you.

That's what I was thinking, wait till last. We would be booking seats together either way, just didn't want to pay extra for something we are not going to use, ie: extra bag, this would be the only reason for us to book priority as it is cheaper for that than a checked 10kg bag, just wondering how strict they would be if we all had priority ticket bar one of us.

Why would it be Ryanair's fault if the parents don't purchase the priority ticket for their child? The only reason it could be is if the parents make it an issue of it and what have Ryanair done apart from apply their rules. I'd also be extremely annoyed if I hadn't purchased priority boarding and queued up for a family to jump the queue. If you want family priority fly with an airline that offers it or pay for it for your whole family.

Boarding last can be risky to try and get bags overhead. Even though the 2nd bag, and duty free/airport shopping, is supposed to go under the seat plenty of people don’t.

I'm not too pushed if the bags are overhead or not, was just looking to see if they are strict on this with kids or not, no point paying an extra €50 or so for a child priority only, as we don't need the extra 10kg bag.

On another note, does priority actually gaurentee you will board the aircraft first, or just first through the gate?

It's only €12 for priority. Are you booking hold luggage and priority?

Depends on the airport and how you get to the plane. You'll be 1st through the gate and if you have to queue on the apron. If it's buses it's pot luck.

Travelled Ryanair recently and had 'hassle' from one steward. Although we had priority, she didn't like the rucksack I had even though it was same size as the usual cases that people carry on. Insisted it couldn't go in a locker as it was a rucksack and would have to go under seat in front, despite that it obviously wouldn't fit. I asked the other steward and she was far more helpful... that's Ryanair.

As mentioned previously, the priority queue is now the much longer queue. You'll be first through the gate but that means feck all if you're at the back of that queue. We just wait until near the end.

Our experience (2 * adults, 1 * 2yr old) has led us to book 1*10kg bag in the hold, child gets to bring 2 peices of equipment so that's the car seat in a bag (stuffed with another 5kg of gear!) and the rest carry-on bags of various sizes - my bag definitely would not pass the box test but as it's worn as a backpack it's not been tested in the 10 years I've had it. Mammy and child seats have to be booked so I usually go for row 26ish and then my additional seat is only £4 on top.

Saw that last week. The smart people waited till last and then sat at the emergency seats which no one had paid for.

I'm being quoted €24 per flight for priority, each way that's €48 extra to board "first", and as has been said the priority que is much longer than the non priority que, we would only be booking priority as it works out cheaper than paying for just a 10kg checked bag. I was just curious to know if I was say in the middle of the priority que and one of the kids tickets was non priority would they make a big issue out of it, it's not like it's a huge deal, I havn't paid their extra charge to board the plane first.

Priority means you're first through the gate in theory, assuming you queue up like half an hour before the staff gets there. What you'll gain from this is spending the most time crammed into the bottom of a hot stuffy stairwell or standing out on the tarmac in the rain, or being the first person on the bus and therefore the last off and last to actually board the plane. And that assumes they're not running behind schedule and just processing both queues at once at the gate anyway. Priority absolutely isn't worth it for any reason other than bringing a carry-on bag into the cabin. Since they limit the Priority tickets, there should always be space in the overheads for your bag no matter when you board, so it's better to just wait for the queue to die down and then board last anyway; your seat is reserved regardless.

Because you paid for priority, you are bit guaranteed to be on first. Last weekend, we came back from abroad, they loaded us all into am outside cattle pin before the plane even arrived. Priority people at the front, non priority at the back.
When they started boarding, they opened a gate at the front of the cattle pin and another at the back. All the non priority got onto the flight before me.
Priority is essentially just paying to bring on the carry on bag, nothing to do with getting on earlier or later.

If I were you, I'd pay for priority for the 4, and wait till the priority Que is nearly all gone in, then walk up to the desk at the end.
You won't be skipping the Que with anyone as all priority will be on before you, you will just be bringing the child on, in front of the non priority.

That's the plan, thanks. Doesn't seem to be a benifit to priority other than cheaper carry on.

How are they getting away with Charging for carry on, I thought there was a European ruling that they have to allow carry on, they did allow it for a while, advertising two free carry on bags, now it seems to have reverted back to how it was
