Hey guys, I have my VRT booked for next Saturday on a car I just imported for myself. The payment on it is over €2000 euro, how do they accept the payment, is it possible to pay that off my card there and then? I'm with bank of ireland if that makes any difference.

You can pay by bank draft (payable to Applus Car Testing Service), debit card or credit card. If you are using a debit card to pay, the transaction is limited to €2,500 per day. If the VRT payment exceeds this amount, you can pay the balance by bank draft.

The VRT calculator is a guide, it is not written in stone. It could very well be the figure you got but not a guarantee.

Yeah I VRT'd a motorbike a few months ago and the figure was exact. Hopefully this one is too and it will save me making another appointment and having to get a bank draft for anything over €2500.

I did it in 2017. They quoted me 200 more and i queried it with a figure that matched the correct emissions. He did it at the lower figure without any hassle.

I'll definitely be quoting them that figure if they ask for more.

You won’t be quoting anything to the people at NCTS. If you want to register it you have to pay their quote and then appeal afterwards.

    Will do. Thanks.

The NCT Centre will also collect the VRT charge (and other tax liabilities) on behalf of Revenue. You can pay this charge either by:
    • Bank Draft or postal order (made payable to Applus Car Testing Service Ltd)
    • Cash (up to a limit of €250)
    • Debit Card
    • Credit Card excluding American Express
    • Company cheque with TAN numbers only (to a limit of €10,000 payable to Applus Car Testing Service Ltd)

Edit: BoI have no Visa Debit daily limit apparently: http://www.moneyguideireland.com/debit-card-limits-on-spending-and-atm-withdrawals.html

Sounds good, will let you know how I get on next weekend!

How does the NCT test work after I've VRT'd the car? Can I book straight away for an inspection or is the english MOT transferable? It has MOT until November 2019.

Totally different with a motorbike. Easy to work it out exactly as it's based on the cc and age of the bike and doesn't change regardless of the bikes value.

How old is the car? If under 4, you await until it reaches 4 years old since registration date and commence NCT every 2 years up to 10 years old, yearly after that.

If over 4 and you've a valid MOT, see the bottom of this page for transfer process: http://www.rsa.ie/en/RSA/Your-Vehicle/Your-Vehicle-/The-NCT--Recognition-Certs/
