    Hi,
    for Maternity leave and Paternity leave;
    Am i right in saying, the first 26 weeks of Maternity leave is paid, but only the first week of Paternity leave is paid?

    Also for sick leave, am i right in saying that all companies pay sick leave, 26 weeks of sick leave?

    Thanks a mill!

    Maternity leave - 26 weeks from Dept of Social Welfare then it's at employers discretion whether or not they make up the shortfall.

    Paternity leave - 2 weeks from Dept of Social Welfare and again at employers discretion whether or not they make up shortfall.

    Sick leave is at the discretion of the employer. If you get a cert from your doc that exceeds 6 days you'd get a few quid from Dept of Social Welfare but employers discretion whether or not they make up shortfall.

    With maternity leave, everyone is also entitled to take 16 weeks unpaid leave directly after their 'paid' maternity leave

    Maternity leave is not paid. Social welfare pay Maternity Benefit, and I guess Paternity Benefit.

    Ditto sick leave, and Illness Benefit.

    These benefits are a fraction of the amount most people earn, roughly €200-300 per week.

    Some employers, mainly government and multi nationals direct employees top these up - and in practice they often do it by paying you the full amount they pay and having your benefit paid to them.

    But most employers don't pay when a person is on this type of leave.
