    Quick question regarding the NCT.

I purchased a car that's been off the road. I've gotten it Almost ready for the NCT but paper work hasn't gone through as it wasn't sent off yet. Would I be ok to book an NCT and turn up for it even if the car isn't in my name.

Yes they don't care who brings the car once they have ID with them.

Good, I'm eager to get it on the road soon but it's still not in my name. At least of the NCT is done I can tax it and use it.

you can tax it anyway as soon as it's online in your name.

If you don't take the taxbook with you, they may hold the cert until you have the book.

Just know OP, you are requested to bring the logbook to the NCT.

However, they don't always ask (I'm sure a spate of posts about that will follow)

If they do ask and you don't have the logbook, they will still test the car but not give you cert until you produce logbook.

Second to last test I had I couldn’t find the logbook on the morning of the test.

The lads tested it but held the cert until I went in with logbook.

Took 2 weeks to get a replacement logbook.

I tested a car that wasn't in my name in February, no issues.

Didn't ask for the logbook (we did have it).

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Car doesn't have to be in your name, but do you have the actual VLC or have you sent it off for change of ownership?

They asked me one year, I said I forgot it, they still tested it and gave me the cert. I guess it's up to their discretion at the end of the day, unless they've become more strict about it in the past 3 years or so.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I called them this morning. If I supply the chassis number they will issue a temperory VLC so it can be tested and cert issued. I'll also be able to tax it and use it.

I couldn't read the chassis number tgis morning but will get back to it later.
