Thinking of buying a second hand Leaf

I am thinking of buying a second hand leaf for a long while , and hope to take the plunge soon
I have read a lot of advice on here , I had an EV installer out today and he quoted 950 euro for a wall charger. the cable would run across my front path while charging or I could just use a granny charger from extension out the window. I would have to be sure I get 600e grant first. I have my eye on a black 2012 leaf sve from garage , 53,000 miles, 1 owner, priced 7,995euro. As I am on a budget and don't know much about buying a car.

Across the public footpath, or just on your own privately owned driveway? If the former, I'm afraid you can't do that.

Make sure to look at the battery state of health, that's the most important thing for me. Garage should tell you what that is.

You will not get the grant for a charger that has to cross a public footpath.
It has to be able to be charged within your garden.

If you can stretch your budget a little, try get a 132, or 141 with the newer battery. They are more resilient. Do you have a link to the car you are looking at? People here can advise.

A quick search and I found a 132 with newer battery on DD. Still has full 12 bars.

Here's one for £8,000 (€9,000) Jest east of Birminghman. Lovely chrome pack too. You could fly there and get back on the ferry for €200 and you still get the charger grant.

    €8k for a 2012 is too expensive.

I just sold my 141 SVE last October for just under €10k. I know there's not much depreciation at the minute but there should be newer cars available for that budget, or stretch the budget a bit.

    Prices are up.
I sold my 141 SVE for €11k in January after you.

@Ghost, both of those cars are only SV spec though.

thank you for all the replies, it has been a great help. I would not have time at moment to go to UK , and find it daunting, maybe the North. I rang garage about 2012 leaf and he said it was 6,995e , I would be doing low miles, but probably have to charge it in a town, for return journey, as it only has 10 bars, lost 2. I liked colour ,and heated leather seats. I might go to see it, a bit away. It does 80km . I don't know how to do a link, but its in Dublin. I would be driving 37km each way for next few weeks , nearly 80kms.

Give Phil Fitzgerald at Electric Autos in Kildare a shout. He doesn't have anything in your budget listed at the minute but he can source your spec for you in the UK and sort out the import process for you.

The 2012 didn't come with leather as standard and it was just one spec. The XE, SV, SVE and the Euro/UK equivalent Visia, Acenta, Tekna were available from 2013 on. If I had to guess I'd say the chances are that the car has taxi-style pleather aftermarket seat covers on it.

    Just a warning I guess.

What spec? What's the battery SOH?

I don't mean to be rude but I think you're rushing a bit. You're making offers on a car without even knowing what's included.

I know the signs, because I do the same myself. I went from contemplating an i3 to driving one home in less than a fortnight. I'm happy with my car but I could have got more for less if I'd taken my time.

The OP didn't say he wanted SVE spec, only that the one he was looking at was an SVE. So knowing there is a budget, I listed the best value I could see in a quick search. As an owner of both an SV and SVE, I can honestly say it would not be a deal breaker at all for me. I like the SVE 360 degree reverse camera, but other than that, I couldn't care less. SV tires are cheaper too because they are 16".

@ the OP. It seems daunting going to the UK, but you can fly in the morning, collect the car within an hour of reaching the garage and get the ferry the same day. I have done it twice from as far over as Luton. I chose to stay overnight so I could take my time and get a small break away from home. The one I linked is easily got in the same day. Try your best to avoid an early 2013 or below. I have one, but only because it was going for a price I could not say no to. Great car and does us great service.

If you can stretch the budget a little, there is a lot more available. Consider the fuel savings each week and very low maintenance costs too.

Found a 142 leaf low miles, I owner @ 9,500 euro. can keep it few years longer. it will do 120km on a full charge, has alloys, leather steering wheel in white. Its 100 miles to go see it, if its worth it.

I would definitely get that '142 over a mystery '12 reg. If it has a full service history it would still have a few months of the 5 year battery and drivetrain warranty left if it has less than 100 k km on the clock, a small bonus.

Well, , the white 142 just sold. I will keep looking . I was rushing ,as I have been thinking of this for few years. Usually buy from a garage and pay too much. I only have the rest of the week to look and go see .

I'm not surprised. That was a very good price.

Learn from an opportunist like myself. When you spot a bargain. Dive for it with cash at the ready, like a vulture. Get there, buy it, before the other vultures out there :)
