NCT: rear disc brake splash/dirt/stone guard

    Hi all,
Recently had a fail on rusted dirt guard on my car, I have ordered another but since then I have seen several cars of the same make with painted calipers and no guard. I know that I have to fit it this time for the retest but was wondering if anyone knows if they are compulsory, just for future reference since it is a lot easier to cut the blighters off than remove everything just to replace them.
PS. I did try to read the NCT online pdf but it didn't seem clear to me because they are referring to various dust guards (caliper bleed nipple for example)

Thanks for any info on this.

I think it depends on tester to be honest. Mine was rusted so I cut it off and it passed a few weeks ago. I did have a replacement but required hub to be removed which would be a total pain in the arse to do.

I think it’s a bit like a spare tyre with testers. Don’t need it... but if it’s there, it must be good. That said, it’s a reinspection for that piece, so my guess is if you cut it out now, it’ll fail. A bit of a grey area. I’d say only option is to replace it....or wait the month, cut them out, and go full retest. PITA.
