My Audi Sline needs repairs and not worth spending money on it
It has 340km on it and neeeds new timing belt and few other jobs

Took an insignia for a test drive yesterday

    2013 - 145km - about €6k for the car

It’s the baseline model I think so no parking sensors, sat nav (I use the phone on the Audi) and I have to figure out how to play music from phone on insignia . It doesn’t handle Bluetooth for music no A2DP but the phone connects fine

What are insignias like and would you recommend ?

Their flywheels are notorious, I'd make sure that it was done, because it will go eventually.

How would I know if it’s done if no paperwork. I didn’t check the service manual though

I've had one for the last 2 years (132 reg) and no issues at all. The easiest way to play music is via a 3.5mm aux audio cable.

Well I know it’s a drop going from an older Audi

New to posting here. STAY AWAY!!! There nothing but a bag of trouble. I know mechanics around here who wouldn't touch them. Brother in law fixed sister in laws car. Swore after it never again. No room for working on them so labour will be ridiculous and getting charged for it. Flywheel, diesel pump, injectors all common faults with a nice price tag. Just my two cents from what I'm hearing

6grand for a base spec insignia seems too much imo, on what has way More negative than positive reviews based on boards.

A base model Insignia is a miserable place to spend anytime in even coming from a 13 year old Audi.

Also early Insignias have a terrible reputation for reliability, oil pump failures, gearbox failures and spontaneous combustion are all well documented. They got a facelift in 2014 and which improved them so I wouldn't even entertain a pre facelift model. A Mondeo would be a much more sensible buy and don't cost much more over a similar Insignia.

OP, try squeeze another few bob together and stay with the Audi but up in the yrs, circa 2010. Far nicer place to be than the insignia. They're a noisy, unsophisticated bastard......and that's without the well documented issues that come as part of the package. I just got out of a 2006 A6 after almost 7yrs. Loved the car. In a F10 M-sport now and it's a really nice place to be. Insignia, steer clear.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm gonna keep an eye out for a 2010-2013 (Audi , BMW or Merc).
In the mean time I'll keep the Audi and spend the money on repairs.

    1st job next week - T/belt & WP :)

Drive away on the old belt and scrap it when it stops , could get another 100 k km out of it. Unless on visual inspection it's completely gone !

Did the same on my old passat estate 1.9tdi that was overdue a TB when i bought it at 150k miles. Scrapped it 7 years later and 300k miles and never bothered touching the timing belt.

I checked the service book and the TB was replaced 50k miles ago in 2015.

According to this maintenance scheduile is says replace on the 2.0 engine at 110k miles. I would assume these intervals are every X miles/ km ?

    https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/display/tech/Maintenance+Schedule+-+2006+-+A4%2C+A4+Avant%2C+A4+Cabriolet%2C+S4%2C+S4+Avant%2C+S4+Cabriolet

The NCT is due in Oct. I was thinking to get the NCT done earlier and see exaclty what needs replacing. A fresh NCT would give a little more value should I try to sell it.

Belt is more than ok so ,

Yes submit it to NCT within 3 months of oct date and go from there.
