Will be booking a family trip somewhere sunny (probably Mallorca for a short flight) for next May. 2 adults 3 kids. Going to book each part myself to save some money. Is there a particular insurance policy I should look at ? My biggest fear is that one of the kids would be sick and we couldn't go. We will only be doing 1 foreign trip next year and don't travel every year so multi trip not necessary. Any advice welcome

I usually go with AA Travel Insurance - don't think there is much difference from single trip to multitrip. Says on their website - cover from 16.99 pp.

Also I would get the family a EHIC =European Health Insurance Card https://www2.hse.ie/services/ehic/ehic.html
It's free, and allows you to get free health care in EU countries whilst away. Easy to apply for and lasts for a few years.

Normally I use Multitrip.com, looking at it now and it under €50 for a holiday i booked over the weekend and that the full cover with no excess for most items, just check the excess and make sure to carry and use the EHIC as stated, if you do end up in a public hospital take both your and your kids passports as well as the EHIC cards and don't tell them you have travel insurance, basically saves you paying up front for the same cover.
Also its important to buy the travel insurance once the holiday is booked which should cover you if you have to cancel and loose your deposits or in my case fully paid booking.
