Does a Nissan Leaf have to be serviced by Nissan to keep the Warranty valid?

Did you not just ask the same question yesterday???

I suppose it was a similar question, in this case I was asking if it is Nissan that has to do it but I have just found out that an EU directive says that any dealer can service the car and the Warranty is still intact

    That's true of course.
But the person servicing it has to be competent with EV's. That may pose an issue.

A yearly service with Nissan is 130e max.
Why bother going to an indy at that price?

Yeah exactly, why get it serviced anywhere else, if I buy the car it will be serviced by Nissan in the future, the car I am looking at has been serviced by an independent and I was worried about the warranty being valid.

Surely only Nissan can answer this question, how could an independent have the equipment and knowhow for a specific EV.

Looks like a double thread to me

That's what I was worried about Slave1 but the EU directive say otherwise.

Screw the seller with a low offer, plain stupid to get an Indy, my annual service is €76 at a main Nissan dealer, why go elsewhere and stupidly cast shadows over resale value

post the link to the directive please and give the para number in question

This is the best I can do because I am at work, repairs are mentioned in the first few paragraphs and later in the article.

The part near the end that says:-

    SERVICING A NEW CAR

Changes to the BER in 2002 included clauses intended to increase choice when it comes to servicing of a new car. You cannot be obliged e.g. as a condition of warranty, to have your car serviced by a franchised dealer.

Servicing a Leaf requires specialist training, I was chatting to one of the lads in my local Nissan dealership (Windsor Raheny) when I was dropping the missus' Micra up - some parts of the car could be at 400v which would be rather dangerous if you touched the wrong spot. They do work for other dealers too as not everyone is currently (see what I did there ? :)) trained up to service them.

In theory, yes, you you are correct in that you do not have to have it serviced by a main dealer for warranty purposes, but with such a specific car you're probably much better off in the hands of a specialist. If it was a bog standard ICE then an indy would probably be fine. In 2002 when the law was changed, I guess they didn't have EVs in mind.

Any idea what I should expect to pay for the enhanced service including the brake fluid and coolant replacement lads? Booked in for next week with Windsor.

Pretty sure that's the service I had earlier this year, €100 at main Nissan Dealer and I replaced the cabin filter myself

I got my 161 Leaf serviced by a Nissan Main Dealer in January when mileage was approx. 80k kms. Just now hit 94k kms and I'm getting a maintenance reminder on the dash screen everytime I switch on. Surely its not necessary to service the car again after less than 5 months and 15k kms?

You can reset that within the menus by flicking through them using the 4 button cluster to the right of the steering wheel.

They obviously didnt reset them after the service or they set it to 15k km's because thats what they would set it to for an ICE car. Some dealers do that evethough its not necessary in an EV.

Got the first service for my leaf 40. 104e in total. 21k km on clock, 98% SOH - is this about average? Dealer confirmed that my car has the battery management software update.

    Looks good

Even if it was linear degradation ( it won't be, degraditon is the quickest initially and slows down )

    Of 1% every 10k km

Your looking at 300k km before it reaches 70% SOH

I think this is what happened as the message never came up before even though I have put over 40k kms on it. I'll just reset it to avoid having to cancel it each time I start up. Thanks
