I am looking into getting health insurance. When we were living in Canada we discovered our daughter had something in her brain that didn't belong. As far as they could tell from MRIs it's not cancer but needs to be monitored coming into puberty. Does this mean it's a pre existing condition and it will rule her out getting help for it?

    Hi

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I’d highly recommend posting into the health insurance section in askaboutmoney. The main contributor there is snowyb and he’s an unbelievable fountain of health insurance knowledge.

    Good luck

The general rule applied by all the insurers is a five year waiting period for pre-existing conditions. You'll find more info here: www.hia.ie/consumer-information/waiting-periods/new-customer-waiting-periods

Essentially, the sooner you take out insurance, the sooner your daughter's existing condition will be covered so if she's not too old, it may be that she'll be covered well before puberty.
