What car should I buy?

    Hi All

I need to buy a new car in the next few months but I don't really know too much about cars or buying a car. I would be travelling from Navan to Dublin on a daily basis.

Ideally I would like to buy something that will last a good few years and has bit of power. (Getting up to speed on the motorway in a Micra is tough :D )

I could probably spend a few grand in cash and could maybe do something on finance, as long as the monthly payments are not too much.

What would my best options be?

    Thanks in advance

    Your budget here is key....

As is number of children and your lifestyle outside commuting to work.

You don't sound like you want anything flash or are into cars at all so I'm going to start with recommending something in the vw golf/Ford focus/hyundai i30 kind of class.

The year of which will be dictated by how much you are prepared to spend, we don't know if you are 5k, 10k, 20k really

A good 2014 - 2015 golf for example is about 15k region.... A 2011/2012 is about half that

    No kids. (Yet at least)
Wouldn't use the car too much outside of commuting and general use. (Shopping etc)

About 10K would be the most id be able to spend.

I might look into a 2012 Golf and see what kind of prices I find

The tolls from Dublin to naval are quite high , so going fully electric would allow the savings in tolls to go towards repayments, plus a couple of grand saved in fuel per annum too.
Old model Leaf 40 kw would be worth doing the sums on .

A hybrid like a Prius or Auris would work too if you don't have access to home or work charging.
