Looking at buying a new or relatively new Octavia petrol. Is the newer 1 litre petrol engine the way to go? Any problems with the older 1.2 litre engine?

It's mainly for city driving (low annual mileage but need a bigger car for the kids , buggies etc.).

The new 1.0 seems to be "so far, so good", the oldest ones are hardly 2 years old yet though do the gauge of potential issues isn't that broad but generally speaking they appear reliable.

The older 1.2 on the other hand is fairly tried and tested and seems to be hardy, generally speaking.

The 1.2 is a 4 cylinder, the 1.0 is a 3 cylinder you'd hardly tell to listen to it but given the choice the choice, at the moment I'd probably go with the 1.2 but that's just personal preference really.
