Yup, there was a recount in South-East Inner City but nothing changed.

Happy with who we got in South-West Inner City, nice mix as usual.

Strange that North Inner City has 7 seats from an electorate of 27,000 & Cabra has 7 seats for 37,000 but Clontarf & Kimmage only have 6 seats for an electorate of 40,000?

Number of seats is based on population, not electorate. Participation in the electoral process is poor in the city centre constituencies.

I don't live in the Donaghmede ward or Dublin City Council (but next to it) so I didn't bother looking into Lawrence Hemmings - Green Party much before the election but he's got to be one of the candidates with the least information available on him.

What his connection to the Donaghmede ward?

So do we know who will take Ciaran Cuffe's council seat yet?

(I see he started in Brussels already, which I was surprised at. Doesn't give them much time to get themselves sorted.)

lots of councilors round the country elected to Seanad when are councils going to get a chance to replace them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,177 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Replacement councillors are selected by the party (or departing councillor where independent) so it's up to the individual parties to co-opt new councillors.

Every council has its own casual vacancy procedure, however many require an actual meeting of the full council to co-opt the new councillor. I can't quickly find DCCs full policy.

There's only two DCC councillors elected to the Seanad (Moynihan and Sherlock, both Labour) + this Green needing replacement currently.

Did you ask him to explain himself to you even though you don't live in the local electoral area or in the council area.

There is no requirement for a person to have "a connection" as you put it. A plant pot would have won a seat for the greens in donaghmede in 2019.

yeah I asked him what his connection to the Donaghmede was and he didn't reply.

There is no requirement but I think they should have a connection to the constituency whether they live or work in or very near to the area for a decent amount of time before they decide to contend the seat. Hemmings' stated home address and work place were both in the city centre.

Lawrence Hemmings shows the problem with "waves".

Hey, please remove if this post is not allowed. I am looking to get in touch with my local councillor or TD in Ranelagh, anyone know who they are or where I might find them here, thanks.

    Best, P

Darragh Moriarity replacing Rebecca Moynihan for Labour in SW; Dearbháil Butler replacing Lawrence Hemmings for GP in Donaghmede.

A new Lord Mayor will be elected later this month. June 29 unless there's been a change in schedule due to COVID.

She can ensure Ciaran Cuffe doesn't invest his inherited wealth in any more embarrassing shares :pac:

Possibly illegally inaccurate claim to be 'elected' there.

Can't find the rotation deal online which means it may not be public; but I'd be expecting only one FF year; one Labour year, one Green year and two Independents - FF aren't enough ahead to claim two and due to the Independents the other semi-logical 2FF 2GP 1Lab split up doesn't work.

edit: its acutally the Soc Dem not independents; doh. That makes it rather more confusing as I'd presume its 1/1/1/1/???. Not a hope they'd give FF an extra go for one extra seat.

Only article that spitballed any split-up thought it was going to be an FF/GP/SF/Ind deal; which realistically was never going to happen.

Not sure what the split will be, actually. I don't know if the Soc Dems will get a look in. Unless something has changed, it's Hazel Chu (Green) next.

Wasn't sure if she'd got the Green selection. Will be delighted to see that, primarily for all the awful awful people who will be fuming about it.

Yeah, they selected her last year at some point. First non-white Lord Mayor, I think. She got quite a bit of abuse just by being a councillor so I can imagine.
