My not-so-little girl!

My eight and a half month old has always been long, she has consistently been in the 99th percentile for weight abs length since she was born and is following along that curve still. She had her 7-9 month check up last week and measured 78cm! The PHN even double checked to be sure as this puts her off the chart for her length!

She is a very clever little lady and meets most of her milestones early. I just always have a niggling worry at the back of my mind about her height and weight. She is perfectly in proportion so not an overweight baby and she has never been a ‘hungry’ baby. She’s just started wearing 18-24 month clothes! PHN and GPS have never mentioned it being a cause for concern though as her dad is over 6ft.

I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else has had such a big little girl and how they’ve grown up to be, if that makes sense!

I don’t have any girls, and all my kiddos have been consistent chart toppers in terms of height and weight, but what I will say is that PHN’s in particular see it all, and they’re usually very quick (too quick sometimes) to flag any issues, so if they haven’t told you to worry, I wouldn’t!

My 3rd was 10lb 6oz at birth, and at 12 months, is a whopper. He is busy growing out of 12-18 months clothes at the moment. His sisters were a good 2-3 lb lighter than him at birth.I had to get him an antibiotic the other day and the pharmacist was questioning it because the dose was for an older child, but that's the weight he is.I have these worries too to be honest, but the PHN says he is in proportion for what he was at birth and like jml says, I am putting my faith in her!!!

My nine year Old was off the charts when she was a baby but in proportion - she’s always been a little taller than most of her friends but her friends seem to be catching up with her now and some have passed her out. She’s never had any issue or concerns with her height.

I have a seven year old boy who was born off the charts for height and weight. In theatre they told me he's 5.04 kilos, we don't know what that is in pounds because it's not on the conversion chart we have here. I felt much like you and I did have people tell me he was too big and feed him less etc. He was ebf to six months and after much second guessing I just ignored them.

He crawled at 7 months and pulled to standing shortly after. He's as strong as an ox. I thought he'd walk early as his sister walked at ten months but he didn't he was content crawling and didn't walk until he was one. He spoke in full sentences and clearly before he was 2.

He has settled back onto the top end of the charts for weight and height and is a happy healthy little boy. Once he started school I realised there are many very very tall kids and actually he doesn't stand out in his class at all. It all balances out in the end and they will be the size they are meant to be.

My 8 month old is 95th percentile, just growing out of her 12-18 month clothes and we've had to upgrade her carseat earlier than we expected (a lot earlier!). She is perfectly in proportion and very long. Her dad is only 5"8 haha but I'm quite tall. My public health nurse said she is very healthy.

Thank you all so much!! You’ve put my mind at ease :) Glad to know there are so many other big babies out there!
We had to get her a bigger car seat early too, at 4 months! Is it just me or are big babies expensive?! We have to buy her a whole new wardrobe every six weeks or so and she outgrew her next to me crib much earlier than expected too so we had to buy her big cot before we thought! She’s my first baby so it’s all new to me :)

So expensive!! I skipped the 9-12 size and put her in slightly too big 12-18 months and they have still barely lasted her 2 and a half months :D

She's my first too, I wasn't prepared for how quick she'd grow, haha!

Wait until they look for 80 euro runners and grow out of them in 4 weeks like my daughter.

8 pound 12 when born and 56cm. She is now 10 and a half and an adult ladies size 4 are too short on her now. Her mother is 5'1" and I am 6'3".

We get through a lot of clothes.Completely skipped the newborn phase anyway! He is still in his maxi cosi, but just about ready to move out of it.He definitely got less time in the moses basket than the others did.I have a slight concern about when he might start to outgrow the cot!
I find him very heavy and it is hard on me.He is cruising now, but not walking yet so it can be tough. But his size makes him able to reach table tops etc which the others couldn't at that age, and it is causing some problems!!
Sorry, I will edit to say that it is interesting contrasting him with my girls, particularly my second. She crawled early and climbed on EVERYTHING.He was 2 & 1/2 lbs heavier than her and slower to crawl-he climbs, but not like she did. It's very interesting to watch.

Mine was 8lb 13oz and 55cm so very similar! Sounds like I should start saving for her shoes fund now :D

Mine is so heavy too! She’s 3lbs off 2stone already and not crawling yet. She’s also going through a really clingy phase so lots of carrying her around! She is fascinating to watch too, every day she seems to learn something new! :D

My little girl was average weight when born (8lb 7oz) but has always been really long. Never bought newborn clothes and never bought too much of the baby sizes but when she hit age 1 she really took off. She's 4 in August but most of her clothes at the moment are age 5-6, if she's in trousers/jeans it's age 4-5 as the waist is perfect, but short enough on the legs. Nothing age 3/4 fits her any more, I bagged up all her 3/4 clothes back in January. She's the tallest in her playschool year and the same height as her cousin who is 17 months older than her. When people ask her age they look at me with amazement when I tell them that she's still only 3!

I don't worry about her weight or height too much, she's healthy and happy and it doesn't bother her.

My not so little man is big too. He’s 13 months but often in a 18/24 month sized top. He’s not fat but he’s a big bruiser. Everyone always comments on how big he is. I feel sorry for him because he’s only a baby and people expect him to be walking and talking on account of his size. The problem is his older brother is very slight and this guy is nearly the same size as him! So I have a too small and a too big! Both perfect in their own way.

On the opposite side of things my daughter was tiny when she was born and very low in the percentiles for a long time. She was being monitored and checked constantly. Now she is 7 and about half a head taller than the other children in her class and growing like crazy all the time.
Your little one might slow down just like mine speeded up :-)

The clothes sizes are a joke too. My second lad is literally bang on the 50th centile for height and weight. But at 8 months is moving into 12-18 month clothes. You would think being perfectly average they’d fit him until 12 months but no. Four months early!

Absolutely! I thought it was just adult clothes that had inconsistent sizing, but no! I have sets of babygrows from different shops which are supposedly for the same age but they’re all completely different! I no longer look at the age but try to guess if they look like they’ll fit :)
