Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson

So after much toing and froing we've settled on 2 cars we 'like'. Unfortunately, neither of us know anything about cars :(

Basically, we're looking for something roomy enough for 2 adults and 2 kids, reliable, mostly driven long distance on motorways and not obscenely heavy on gas consumption.

Are either of the above cars recommended by you guys here? (who clearly know more than we do).

They’re basically the same thing. Are you buying new?

    No, probably 162/171

Ok. One thing to consider is the warranty.
The Hyundai is 5 years unlimited mileage which would equate to 2-2.5 years left on the warranty regardless of mileage.
The Kia will have between 4-4.45 years warranty left, but that warranty is capped at 160,000km so if you do big mileage it’s a consideration.

As said earlier they’re the same basic thing. I prefer the Kia though, I just think it looks and feels nicer. They both drive the same - perfectly fine.

Hyundai’s incessant desire to be number 1 in the sales charts through scrappage deals trade in bonuses and non stop advertising means the Tucson has sold a lot more than the Sportage and is probably perceived as a bit of a budget option in comparison to the Sportage.

Can’t stress enough that they’re basically the same thing. They will both have a good enough possibility of having a clutch or gearbox failure, so
Make sure whatever you buy has a proper Hyundai or Kia dealer history with the inspections done.

Don't know your budget but take a look at the Qashai from the same time. The looks have grown on me and they're really well specced.

Coincidentally I was in both a 2017 Tucson and Qashai last week. I had loan of the Qashai and the person collecting me to take me to it was in a Tucson.

In fairness the trim level of the Qashai was higher, Premium I think, so all leather, panoramic roof and all the gadgets, but I preferred it to the Tucson. There's lots out there so you should find a low mileage too. The face-lift at the end of 2017 was mostly cosmetic so you won't miss much between the 2017 and 2018 version.

Kia tends to be cheaper than hyundai second hand

Herself was mad for one of them.
Had them both for test drives, along with Tiguan, X Trail, Rav 4, all about the same age.
    Ended up buying a Passat!.
Far more shoulder room, much bigger boot, faster, much cheaper, happy out.

I have driven them both and its impossible to pick one from that alone. So for me it would come down to the looks and that goes to Kia. But The Hyundai is still a good looking car.

Thanks a million. Totally confused as to what we want. Going to throw a tiguan into the mix now - any thoughts?

The Tiguan, is lovely, but i'd defo have the Skoda Kodiaq or Karoq over it as they are far better value and just as good. Another one for ya to look at is the SEAT Ateca. All those share the same underpinnings.

You'd probably get more bang for your buck with any of the other cars you mention at that year than in a Tiguan at the same year and price range.

That's definitely true but the Tiguan is a much nicer yoke to be in than a Qashqai or Tucson.
