I was connected to a neighbours private well for 10 years with their consent as I've no area suitable to sink my own pump. Now after 10 yrs they want to cut me off. Are they.allowed after such a long time. I've contributed towards running costs over the years.

Did you contribute towards the cost of sinking the well?
Why do they want to cut you off now?

Was there any formal contract in place or just a gentleman's agreement?

Could there be liability on the supplier if the water got contaminated and the neighbour got sick?

I presume they have poor pressure and that they were told that the dual supply may have an impact.

Other than that people would tend to just shut off unless there was bad blood.

What did they say have you spoken to them about the reason .

We're going off topic for LD but as a general suggestion:

If pressure is their concern you could offer to fund an elevated tank to give you both improved pressure and at the same time formalise your agreement.

    No issues with pressure

I am wondering if the abstraction of water like this is capable of constituting an effective easement ?
If so, would 10 years be long enough to acquire a right to abstract water ?
    I am doubtful...

When you say that you have been contributing towards running costs over the years what did that involve ?
I infer that the neighbour gave you the actual supplied water without charge. I would be looking to see if there was any evidence from which to infer the presence of an implied agreement.
