Looking at a car up North next week and wondering should I get car inspection done on it before I even go up?

Is it worth it and also which package is best? I will be using RAC or if anyone knows a better one let me know thanks.

I already have one of those online checks done. I'm talking about the physical car inspection where the RAC guy calls out to the car and checks everything and let's me know of any underlying problems.

I've used the RAC in England and found them to be excellent.

They were very thorough, giving me e detailed 5 or 6 page report covering all internal and external aspects of the car. You can then phone them up and speak with the mechanic that carried out the inspection, who will go through any queries you might have.

I think it was about £250, but I bought the car unseen in person on the back of it.

Is it a private sale or recognised dealer?

Do you reckon I should get one done then? Dealer is giving me 3 month warranty on the car. From other reviews I've read people say that the RAC are out to pick absolutely everything that can turn you off your purchase even though it may not neccessarily be a problem but they have to do this to cover themselves should anything go wrong.

Is it a main dealer? If its a 3 month warranty then I doubt it and a warranty from UK independent is pretty much worthless, same for the warranty company ones too. If it is independent, say something goes wrong that would cost €500 to fix, are you going to transport it to them to fix it?

RAC report is very detailed but isn't that the point, no one would pay £250 for "sure its a fine looking motor", you read the report and decide if all the defects are expected from a car of that age, which most will be.

I paid £16k for the car, so thought the £250 was money well spent.

Having said that, I got a fully clean report on a four year old car.

Had they reported something iffy, I would have had a dilemma, so maybe I got lucky.

As an aside, that was nine years ago, and the car is still going strong.

Hence recognised dealer in my post.

They're 10 a penny in the UK - RAC usually comes to the top of any recommendation. Money well spent if buying outside a dealer network/transferrable warranty.

Basic one is very quick turnaround. Comprehensive one takes more time so the bookings are not as quick to get. They're very quick to get back to you, so if time isn't on your side, I'd give them a phonecall versus an email/online inquiry. Good luck with the purchase

I have it booked in since yesterday but unfortunately I forgot Monday is a bank holiday in UK so looks like they're struggling to find someone. My only other option which I informed them is to get it done Tuesday morning before I arrive to hopefully buy the car.
