Question about MOTs

My son is looking at a few cars in NI, one of them has a lot of miles for the year and an odd MOT pattern.
It was registered in November 2016, according the the MOT website it had an MOT at that time (100 odd miles recorded). It then had another one six months later (12000 miles), another one six months after that (56000 miles) then again another one a year later (82000 miles), that was six months ago and the mileage hasn’t changed since...
It’s in NI but it obviously came in from the mainland, I’m thinking it must have been a taxi or something but why was it being MOT’d every six months...?
I thought it was first MOT at 3Y then every year after that.....?

Yes private hire vehicles is 6 months MOT, could have been used as an UBER or similar.
IMPORTANT: MOTs for private hire vehicles are only valid for 6 months.

    https://www.uber.com/en-GB/drive/resources/mot-certificate/

I would think seller should really disclose it in their advert as you will find it out anyway. Does it have any service history that you could compare the MOT test date mileage against?

Thanks, I was thinking it must have been something like that.
I don't know about the service history, I was trying to warn him away from it.
It looks a nice car and it's a bit below the going rate, this explains it...

Also I meant to ask is there a quick way to check if a car has been an insurance write off other than by running one of those checks, is it recorded on the logbook anywhere..?
