Heard a 2009 straight pipe prius go by me the other day. The oddest thing.

Catalytic converters are worth a fair bit and thefts are apparently increasing worldwide.

The cats in the first gen Prius are worth a fair few bob, become quite a common thing over in the UK.

Wouldn't it be nice though if that Prius fell a thump on him.

Amount of effort involved for rubbish money but I suppose crimes against the person equate to no punishment when caught, why don't they ramraid a jewellers or something with actual skill involved?

For a once off, yes. For a few (how many could fit in the back of a hi-ace parked nearby); you'd make a decent bit in a day.

There's at least 1 scrapyard in Dublin will only offer 1 euro for each cat brought in to them.

That's ****e money. Misereably ****e money. The crime doesn't come close to paying at that. Might as well get a legtimate job.

Unless your selling cut cats to Prius owners who've just had their cats cut.

I think the idea was to discourage this activity. But if they are still being stolen, obviously someone is giving good money for them

I know a legit lad who collects scraps cars etc.
The only bit he is interested in is the cat, so they must be worth a few quid.
Apparently the cat is massive on them leafs so worth even more.

How do you tell a Leaf owner?

    Don't worry, they'll tell you.

Sure. Anyone trying to rob the cat of my own yoke will be fairly dissapointed.

    And I will be amused.

This happened a regular on the D15 forum about 6 weeks ago. He posted at the time that the guy who gave him a courtesy car while his own was being repaired told him it was the third replacement for a Prius he'd supplied in 24 hours, so clearly it's pretty common.
