My parents have just sold some land so we are into some money. Looking at changing the car, we have a citroen 1.6 diesel pushing 220k kms (ropey territory) and we're wary of potential carbon taxes so may be looking at a hybrid, budget about 12k euros, can we expect a decent spec post-13 CT for that money? Prepared to travel to UK for the savings and better specs..
Also to add, I am 19 and will be getting insured hopefully on the new car when my full licence is achieved. I am under the impression that as it is modern and below 100hp the lexus would be reasonable to insure as a named driver for me just starting out, would I be correct with that assumption or would we better off getting something lower-liter because i know the Lexus is 1800ccs

It’s not really below 100hp though more like 140 when you combine the electric and petrol engines.

Have your parents driven one? Is bootspace a concern

Very comfortable ride around the city etc, didn’t suit my driving style though or the roads I drive on. I enjoyed the interior and it was a pretty easy drive. Probably too refined for my liking but that’s me personally. Plenty of people would like it.

We've been in one as a taxi, going to arrange a test drive in ireland .Suspension was firmish but workable. Bootspace less of a concern we've a megane 2 as a runabout with a perfectly big boot and the boot in the CT seems to suffice anyway

I have one recently bought one for my wife. I paid 9k for the 2011 model. I believe you can get a 2013 model for 12k plus. The insurance was very reasonable for my wife (new driver) and was cheapest as compared to other cars above 1200cc (1.2 ltr). The ride is a bit firm in the city but super smooth on the motorway. The mileage is excellent though. Our avg is 60mpg and during one of commutes, it went upto 72mpg.

How are they at motorway speeds with wind and engine noise? Prices look good for what you get.

I averaged 45.8mpg over 1843 miles one. Mixture of motorway and back mountain roads.

Motorway cruising was ok but mountain roads I didn’t like how heavy it was to get up them and the constant revs was a bit of a pain on those. It felt more at home to me on the motorway cruising or around town and city.

Big mirrors make it easier to see but that was needed as the rear view was restricted. Really enjoyed the features and premium touches like heated seats which were very comfortable.
