Car for new driver

Hi All,
Looking at getting a car for my wife who is just starting out driving and want to run it by some experienced heads.

Budget - Around 5k. 6K max.
Small engine, manual.

A 1.2L Fiat 500 falls into the budget and is cheap to insure for her (around €900)
She will do very low mileage mainly around Galway City.

Also thinking, Yaris, Clio, Honda jazz.

Any other suggestions?

I always liked the fiat 500's. They've been around a long time and are quite simple reliable cars. The main concern is the size, on the one hand a small car is very easy to learn in. But on the other, the rear seats are tiny, as with the boot space. Worth thinking about I think.

And I wouldn't put too much weight on the car being small so easier to learn in. A new driver will get used to whatever they drive, so any of the options you've mentioned would be fine too.

A Nissan Micra would be a sensible choice for an inexperienced driver. The Ford Fiesta likewise. I would favour the Fiat Panda over the 500. It's better to drive, more spacious and comfortable and has excellent visibility.

The 500 is infinitely cooler than any of the other options mentioned.

Exactly Colm_mcm. Kinda selfishly thinking what I would enjoy taking out for a spin.......
