Recommendations for new Speakers

Looking for recommendations for new speakers and anything I need to know before fitting.

The car is a 1995 Nissan 180sx. I have already replaced the stereo with a Pioneer Double Din Unit, but the sound isn't really that great. The sound is very tinny in general and can start to crackle as the volume is turned up. This seems to be a problem with lots of old Japanese cars.

I am not looking to add amps or subwoofers, but I would like to improve the general sound as I listen to the radio all the time when driving. Is it possible to improve the sound just by replacing speakers?

The factory speaker size is 4x6". I assume this means 4 inches deep by 6 inches diameter. Will I need speakers pods if fitting a speaker that is smaller / larger than this?

    Thanks!

Focal, Polk are top price brands. JL audio, Infinity also.
    Pioneer Pro only.
Alpine seem to have some good budget stuff.
My rule is stay away from anything that looks bling..

Try to get high sensitivity stuff, >96db as you are not amping.
Look at weight also. More Bass needs more Magnet, = More Weight.

Thanks. Focal seem a bit expensive for my budget. $800 for a pair of co-axial speakers

They’re French. Try buying them in Europe, or even your local car audio supplier in Ireland. A normal pair of Focal speakers won’t be costing you $800.
