Have the same problem but calf is nearly a month old .out and eating grass. Contacted vet and he gave me powders and 2 injections calf is recovering but vet said it would have killed him if not treated properly. The red in scour is blood.calf is also housed in shed as vet said this hot weather wouldn't help his condition.

Calves dont display the symptoms of coccidiosis until at least three weeks old.
It sounds like your calf might have an ecoli scour.

You didn't state it but I presume you gave oral fluids as well?

Just wondering in a 3 day old calf that is otherwise visibly healthy could the blood just be things getting back to normal after being born?

I don't think it's normal but I don't think it's always pathological in a calf with formed faeces. In a calf with scour at that age, a form of E.coli infection would be the concern.
