    Hi everyone.
I want to change my car over the summer (5 door 03 civic 1.4 petrol hatch with 185k miles, served me well but things starting to creep in)
I feel like getting something 3 door this time and diesel. I want to keep the litres below 2, the mileage below 165,000km (100k miles) the age below 10 and the price below €10k
Two cars have caught my attention.
    2012 Kia Pro_cee'd
    2012 Renault Megane
Anyone have opinions on which car is the better buy? Both cars look great in my opinion but the Renault looks that little bit better. But then again the Kia is a 6 speed, I'm not the type who goes above speed limits so power isn't a big thing for me but I do want a bit of an improvement from the Civic which does slouch a bit off commuting traffic lights.
One of the key worries I would have about the Renault is what is it like to live with? I remember some of the mid 00s models had design flaws like going through the wheel arch to change a bulb and 'French flouzy' electrics. Not sure how accurate that is.
Also whenever you buy a car between 50k and 100k miles you have to question about timing kits don't you? Advice on this would be welcome.
Any opinions on these, or any alternatives you'd like to suggest most welcome.
    Thank you.

    This too shall pass.

Just on the Renault, I had a 2011 one for 6 years and only got rid of it when fuel injectors started to go and it was looking expensive if it continued (likely bad fuel than a design issue I believe).

I’d question if that’s a Tomtom version as it doesn’t seem to have sat nav (a big and ugly one) in the middle of the dash.

Can’t remember figures but was peppy enough and not too heavy on the juice. Found the cabin a bit loud though and the bucket seats in my version were comfy but the ride was a bit harsh on country roads. Think that’s just the suspension on the gt line rather than the one you’re looking at. That car at the link seems expensive though and I’d see if you could get a better spec one. Tiny back seat and odd shaped boot too (if they’re considerations). Can’t say it had any particular design flaws that bugged me other than a basically unusable tiny cup holder.

    They are both decent options.

Those Megane's are a lot hardier than the previous generation and are by and large very reliable. They need a timing belt every 120k kms, Renualt said 160k but I think they had a tendency to fail before that. Key cards can be a little bit troublesome, other than that though if they are serviced, they are a decent car.

I'd have the Kia personally though, the 1.6 diesel in them is very reliable, afair they are chain driven, not belt and have a solid flywheel so should be fairly reliable, the interior isn't as nice as the Renault but it will probably have the reliability edge and IMO the looks are a bit more toned down but they are still a smart looking car.

I would go for next generation proceed over those if budget is up to 10k

For what it's worth that Megane is not a Tomtom edition. It doesn't have the larger screen for the sat nav that sticks out of the centre console if that's important to you.

The Pro Ceed is a UK import so it's worth checking the service history with the garages who stamped the book and do a motor check on the old UK reg too. Wouldn't be gone on the colour either but that's just me.

You’d be owner number 5 on that Megane.

ceed new model came out in 2012

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/kia-ceed-2013-1-6-crdi-coupe/21735027

bought a 2013 estate a couple of months ago - happy so far

edit didnt realise they did proceeds it what iss essentially the ceed 2 spec (same as my ceed sw)

fully loaded spec looks like this
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2015-kia-ceed-proceed-ecodynamics-se-nav-1-6-gdi/21477883

but obviously needs importing with all the caveats of that etc etc

Old model Ceed is very dated inside now.

Even new model is not ground breaking interior design wise but at least exterior design is miles ahead of previous model. They(Ceed/I30) are good looking reliable cars overall

Incidentally I saw that particular Ceed getting petrol today. It looks quite tidy.

That's no good for me so. I'm looking for a diesel.
Thank you everyone. I'm leaning towards the Proceed now, maybe not the one in my op though. Very mixed reviews about that dealership. If I can get a good finance package, I'll try and push for a newer model.

    This too shall pass.

    I meant getting diesel :)

I’m not sure I’d buy off that dealer.
