Medical Card Validity

I just received a new Medical Card, however I note it's only valid for 1 year. I seem to remember them being issued with a 2 year validity period before. Have they changed the duration of the validity of the Medical Card recently, is this a new measure being implemented to only renew them for 1 year periods?

My OH got his and it was for 1 year, then I got a review form to make sure there was no change in circumstances. After which we both received new cards for a 2 year period.
