anyone know if i need to buy a parking ticket if im going to sit behind the wheel. need to do it for about an hour and dont want to pay the 3euro.

of course i could drive off if the clamping van comes by. but i dont want to be constantly looking out for it and ready to move when he pulls up.

Why bother constantly looking around for the clampers? Just drive off if you spot someone beginning to fit a clamp to your front wheel.

I doubt they'd even attempt to clamp you if you're sitting in the car anyways, they'd be worried about potential confrontation, they'd just tell you to move on, I'd imagine.

I would say yes. Let's say you went in to a shop and someone stayed in the car in the back seat or passenger side would you still pay

They'd have to check the dash for a parking ticket, would that not be enough of an oul heads-up for you???

I sometimes arrive for an appointment early in town. If I've nothing to do I sit in the car and wait before I pay for my parking.
I use a parking tag app so I don't need to move from the car, but I still don't pay until I have to if I can avoid it.

    No don’t pay.
Sit in car and they won’t even bother checking for a ticket.

Thanks all. it will be in the morning in dublin city centre and waiting for an appointment. i thought alot of people might sit in the car beforehand and thought the parking authorities might be aware of this and try and get them to pay. As if alot of people do it, its lost revenue.

Probably pub talk but my understanding was they can't clamp a running car. I heard a story of a guy with a remote start that often got out of clamping by just starting the car.

If you're in a spot, pay.

If you don't want to pay, drive back and collect who ever after they're done.

In the old days you would be described as "waiting" rather than "parking".

My brother fell asleep in his van in Dublin city one day, woke to hear someone at the van (clampers). When he sat up they copped him and said 'Jaysus your man was asleep in there' to which they stopped what they were doing and put the clamp back in the van.

Jus sit in the car, you'll be fine.
